The Lemon Rice Recipe

Whenever I come back from India, my friends often ask me to show them how to cook typical Indian food. Today I decided to reveal the secret of one of my favorite dishes: Lemon Rice. This recipe was generously given by a friend and I cannot get bored with it. It is simple yet so tasty…. And more importantly the quantity of chilli is suited for those with a  sensitive palate !

Ingredients
  • 1 large glass of white rice
  • 1 onion medium size
  • 3-4 table spoon of oil preferably ground nut
  • 1 table spoon of urad dal or split chick peas optional
  • 30 non salty and non roasted peanuts
  • ½ tea spoon of turmeric
  • ½ tea spoon of mustard seeds
  • 1 dry red chilli optional
  • 1 handful of curry leaves
  • 1 tea spoon of salt or according to taste
  • ½ bunch of coriander
  • ½ lemon

  • 1 large glass of white rice
  • 1 onion medium size
  • 3-4 table spoon of oil preferably ground nut
  • 1 table spoon of urad dal or split chick peas optional
  • 30 non salty and non roasted peanuts
  • ½ tea spoon of turmeric
  • ½ tea spoon of mustard seeds
  • 1 dry red chilli optional
  • 1 handful of curry leaves
  • 1 tea spoon of salt or according to taste
  • ½ bunch of coriander
  • ½ lemon
Instructions
  1. Cook the rice in a pan or a rice cooker
  2. Cut the onion and coriander
  3. Heat up the oil in a pan (middle flame). When the oil is hot, add the peanuts and the dal. Then add the mustard seeds. Let simmer for one minute.
  4. Split the chilli in three parts and add it to the pan along with the curry leaves and the onion. Mix well for a few minutes.
  5. Add the turmeric and salt, and continue stirring until the onion, the peanuts and the dal are roasted (about 5 minutes).
  6. Remove from heat. Add the coriander and lemon. Mix well. Put the rice to the mixture.
